Monday, June 25 — Day One

 

All Day - Delegates arrive, registration open – check in at the Westin Mammoth lobby.


1 pm - Optional lodging tours available throughout the day (sign up during registration).

7:30-9:30 pm - Welcome Reception poolside at the Westin. Speaker: Mammoth Lakes Tourism’s Director of Marketing, Whitney Lennon, welcomes the group and introduces our Mammoth Lakes VR (Virtual Reality) video. Opportunity to view our VR video.

 

Tuesday, June 26 — Day Two

 

6:30-8:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel.

 

7-8:15 a.m. Board meeting  (for FLC Board members only)

Depart for day and half-day tours (Mammoth Lakes Tourism will provide box lunches for tours that do not have lunch included).

 

6- 8 pm Dinner at Petra’s – after-dinner drink at Clocktower or head to Night Sky Photography Tour – see below.

 

8 pm Pick up from Petra’s for those who have signed up for the Night Sky Photography Tour.

 

8:30-10:30 pm Night Sky Photography Tour at Minaret Vista.

Wednesday, June 27 — Day Three

7-7:45 am Yoga class at the Westin

 

7:30-8:45 am – Breakfast at the Westin

 

8 am – 9:15 am FLC Business meeting (all members will attend)

 

9:15-9:30 am Break

 

9:30-10:30 am – Presentation on Devils Postpile National Monument

Devils Postpile National Monument Superintendent Deanna Dulen will present an overview of the Mammoth Lakes area. Additionally, Dulen will provide information on Devils Postpile, the national monument in Mammoth Lakes’ backyard, including the flora, fauna and wildlife found in the area, as well as the area’s location to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the John Muir Trail (JMT).

 

10:30-10:45 am – Break

10:45-12:30 – Editors’ Panel

Join Chris Collard, Editor-in-Chief, Overland Journal; Thea Marie Rood, Editor, Sierra Living; and Elizabeth Harryman, Travel Editor at Westways and ACE Publications and Editor in Chief at Tidewater Traveler for a panel discussion revolving around how to pitch their publications, pet peeves, terrible pitches, the changing landscape of journalism and whether or not it is affecting their publications, and more. As part of the discussion, the editors will answer the following questions:

  • A. How far out are their publications (2, 3, 6 months or a year)

  • B. Best way for new writers to pitch — front of book or what.

  • C. What they look for in a pitch or some examples of favorite pitches.

  • D. Are press trip permitted as long as disclosed - rules.

  • E. Examples of terrible pitches and pet peeves - what lands a writer on their bad side?

 

12:30-1 pm Transfer to the Fort


1-3 pm Mammoth’s Work/Play Lifestyle

Learn more about the Mammoth Work/Play movement during this afternoon event at the Fort, Mammoth Lakes’ co-working office space. Enjoy a catered lunch with a panel of local speakers who embody what it means to live and work in a mountain town.

 

3-4 pm Optional hike with panel speakers

 

3-5:30 pm Free time


Dine Around – additional cost to conference registration (will be paid at the time of the meal)

 

Thursday, June 28 — Day Four
 

6:30-8:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel

 

Depart for full-day and half-day tours (Mammoth Lakes Tourism will provide box lunches for tours that do not have lunch included)

 

6 p.m. Dinner at the beautiful Pokonobe Resort located on the shores of Lake Mary

 

 

 

Friday, June 29 — Day Five

7-9 a.m. Breakfast at hotel

 

Delegates depart for home or post tours

 

Transfer to Mammoth Airport
